If English is not your native language then ask us if we can obtain a pdf manual in your native language. We train many new laughter yoga leaders from across Europe and one of our leaders is running a class here in London in her native Lithuanian language.
At the end of the two days you will, upon successful completion, receive a Laughter Yoga Leader certificate enabling you to get appropriate insurance in order to run laughter workshops as well as allowing you to call yourself Laughter Yoga Leader.

Known for her caring nature which includes random acts of kindness and offering a warm heart, a pair of socks and a woolly hat and conversation to homeless people. She works full time running her wellbeing and training company, Laughter Yoga Wellness London and UK and London Gong. Going further back, Odette worked a 9-5 in I.T so she is a shining example that change is possible.
She has worked with Charities, Community Groups, Banks, NHS, Media Companies, Cancer Patients, Homeless People, Universities and more. From private parties to Small, Medium and Multi National Corporations. Laughter Yoga has been life enhancing for Odette and now she wishes to spread the joy by training others to connect with more joy and laughter.

Exciting opportunity to fully immerse yourself in Laughter Yoga Leader training. I will be collaborating with guest teacher Morag who is based in Scotland so a real treat us coming together for this special training retreat way down South in the South West of the UK.
Would you like to learn the skills to spread the wonderful gift of unconditional laughter amongst family and friends, start your own laughter club or use laughter yoga in your workplace? Or maybe you just want to bring more laughter into your own life? If so, this training is for you.
This retreat will take place in the beautiful Shekinashram, a holistic yoga centre in Glastonbury. It is a peaceful oasis located within walking distance of both the town centre and the Tor.
Arrival after lunch on Friday 4th May at 2pm till Sunday 6th May at 5.30 pm (It’s a bank holiday, why not stay on in Glastonbury an extra night 🙂 )
The retreat will include optional extras which are designed to complement the laughter yoga leader training with a view to enabling participants to relax, let go and fully enter into the training as well as take time out from their busy lives and immerse themselves in nature.

Following a successful assessment at the end of the training, the participants will be certified as Laughter Yoga Leaders and given a certificate which will enable them to obtain insurance to run a not-for-profit Laughter Club.
Laughter Yoga was developed in India in 1995 by Dr Madan Kataria and is a unique concept which enables us to laugh for no reason without the need for humour, comedy or jokes. Through the use of laughter exercises, eye contact, childlike playfulness and yogic breathing, we convert pretend laughter into real, hearty belly laughter. In this way our bodies produce lots of endorphins instantly raising our mood and lowering our stress levels. Laughter has many other benefits including stimulating the immune system, making us feel lighter, more energised and happier.

• Optional bajan/mantra singing on Friday evening.
• Walk up Glastonbury Tor on the Saturday – with an intensive weekend. indoors, it’s important to take time out in the fresh air to re-energise.

The retreat format means you can fully immerse yourself into the training without having to worry about travel/meals etc.

Glastonbury is a beautiful town in Somerset with an eclectic range of shops, cafés, a ruined abbey, Tor, Chalice Well and gardens. In recent years the town has become a place of pilgrimage for visitors of faiths other than Christianity. The reputed healing powers of the White & Red Springs have always attracted visitors and in more recent years there has been a revival of interest in Glastonbury as a centre of alternative beliefs. Its shops reflect this with a host of crystal shops, alternative bookshops, music, clothing and others.

Very excited to have worked with a Parkinson’s disease support group last month in London.

I have been a fan of my colleague in the USA Gita Fendelman since stumbling upon her work with those suffering from chronic conditions. I had not realised that Gita is a parkinsons sufferer. This i found out when researching laughter yoga and Parkinson’s disease. You can hear Gita’s incredible story here and there is no shadow of doubt that Laughter Yoga is helping not just Gita but those she works with. Gita has found laughter yoga to be highly beneficial to her quality of life.
So up until now in addition to working with laughter yoga in corporate wellbeing, I have been very lucky to share laughter yoga with people who suffer from various illnesses and ailments including Cancer, Chronic fatigue syndrome, CFS/ME, Bipolar, Chronic Pain, Depression, Anxiety and more…… This was a first for me to work with a group suffering from Parkinson’s. I checked in with colleagues who had all had great results with such groups.
The most incredible thing to note is why Laughter Yoga is so good for those who suffer from Parkinson’s. When we laugh we release a cocktail of chemicals including dopamine into the system and this is big one with regard to PK and helpful for alleviating some of the physical and emotional symptoms of Parkinson’s. Parkinson’s starts with the slow degeneration of dopamine. Dopamine helps to regulate muscle function and movement. Dopamine supports our overall energy production and feelings of happiness. The symptoms of Parkinson’s occur as a result of a dopamine loss.
There can be various other symptoms connected to the disease such as low mood, depression, anxiety, pain which are all ailments and issues that laughter yoga can help with. Laughter Yoga is an instant stress release, helps to reduce blood pressure and lifts depression. It also boosts the immune system and increases circulation and oxygen levels throughout the body and brain. The endorphin’s we release when we laugh are said to be stronger than morphine which helps with any pain. We also know laughter can help boost our immune system.
So I was delighted to be contacted by a Parkinson’s Support Group in London for a laughter yoga session. After doing my research I planned a workshop that I felt would work. I gathered as much info as possible prior to the session. I was told that the participants were within different stages of the illness with one person in a wheelchair and all with differing degrees of mobility.
I planned a seated session where we were seated in a tight circle with a space in the middle to allow for movement. This way I could include everyone. Each exercise was prepared so it would be suitable for both seated and movement so those who could stand were encouraged to interact with those seated.
I arrived early and very quickly noticed there was one lady who was very obviously less mobile than the rest of the group, with her head down and she was sat next to a guy who was helping to care for her. A few people did not have any obviously noticeable symptoms so it was a very mixed mobility group.
Started the session with a song that I felt everyone would most likely know and took copies of the words to hand out. The song, “My Bonny lies over the ocean” turned out to be a good choice. I also took some egg rattles for a couple of reasons. We could create some movement and rhythm whilst we sung the song. This also allowed me to see how much movement people had at the start of the workshop. It was a lot of fun to shake the rattles as we sung creating lots of rhythm and movement. When we sing it instantly lifts our mood and raises the energy. Actually singing and laughter share many of the same benefits.
I handed out the egg rattles, and the guy helping the less mobile lady wrapped her hand around an egg rattle.
Everyone managed to shake the rattles, and we sang My Bonny. I also gave everyone the option of replacing the song words with Ha Ha’s and Ho Ho’s etc: so same tune, and laughter sounds.
The song did exactly what I wanted, and we were ready to roll. I managed to check out movement etc and then started the sharing of name intros followed by Ha Ha’s, sending lots of smiles and giggles around the circle.
For all exercises we had an option of standing up or remaining seated, greeting laughter where we greeted one another by shaking hands and laughing. Cell phone laughter (receiving the funniest call ever), laughing at our self, laughing at aches and pains and more.
The most incredible thing happened during this session and I felt like i was witnessing magic, the magic of laughter 🙂 The lady who appeared less mobile than the others stood up and joined in. She started off a little uneasy on her feet but I could not believe she had stood up. By the end of the session her head was up, she shared a few words too. It was almost like she had come alive. It felt like the group in the main really enjoyed the session and everyone remarked that they felt better at the end of the session.
This was one of my most personally satisfying sessions. I so so enjoyed working with this group and hope it will be one of many.
The way forward, I recommended telephone and skype laughter to the group and a daily dose of laughing for the health of it. The group were given various exercises and tips which they could bring in to everyday life. It will be fabulous if they choose to do some more laughter yoga sessions or if members of the support group can attend a local laughter club.
Following on from this session, I have been approached by a Dementia support group which is amazing.

Laughter yoga is a practice involving prolonged voluntary laughter along with breathing techniques that originate from Yoga. We usually laugh for between 3-5 seconds, in a laughter yoga session we will laugh for between 10-15 minutes, of deep belly laughter. This is the type of laughter that gives us all the health benefits and the benefits will remain with us for a good 24 hours after the session! The body reacts in the same way whether the laughter is forced or natural, releasing the endorphin’s (happy hormones). It is these endorphin’s that kick in and fight stress, boost our immune system and make us feel good in so many ways. Laughter yoga is experienced in groups, with eye contact, yogic breathing and playfulness between participants. All that is required of the participants is a Willingness to Laugh!

Stay as long or as short as you like. A chance to continue with conversation and laughter amongst new friends in a nearby cafe or pub.
What to bring
Wear something you are comfortable to move in and we will probably lie on the floor for a short ending mediation at some point! so if you like bring a Yoga/Camping Mat and cushion or you could roll your coat up and improvise! Bring some water or purchase from the bar. Laughter is thirsty work!
IMPORTANT PLEASE READ
Laughter Yoga is not a substitute for medical consultation for physical, mental and psychological illnesses, but is a powerful natural complementary form of healing. It is like any other aerobic exercise and may not be suitable for everyone as it involves some physical strain and a rise in intra-abdominal pressure.
Some people may have pre- existing medical conditions and one should take reasonable precaution before doing laughter exercises or indeed any form of exercise.
It is contraindicated for people suffering from: Any kind of hernia, Heart disease with angina pain, Persistent cough with breathlessness, Uncontrolled high blood pressure, Incontinence of urine, Epilepsy, Advanced (bleeding) piles and haemorrhoids or any bleeding tendencies in any part of the body, Severe backache, Any acute symptoms of cough, cold and fever. People who have undergone major surgery should wait at least three months before doing Laughter Yoga.
If in doubt first consult a medical professional for guidance. Anyone undergoing physician-prescribed therapy that experiences improvements through laughter should seek the advice of their doctor before reducing dosage or stopping treatment.
Those suffering from heart disease and high blood pressure but are stable on medication and can take a brisk walk for 30 minutes without any symptoms can do Laughter Yoga with advice from medical specialists.
People who have undergone bypass surgery can also do Laughter Yoga after their stress test is normal. Pregnancy is also a relative contraindication. Women with previous history of miscarriages and also those who are in advanced stage of pregnancy should take medical advice from specialists before doing laughter exercises. People suffering from minor and major psychiatric disorders can participate in a laughter session except those who are not in touch with reality e.g. schizophrenia, Hyper mania (manic part of bipolar depression)
Laughter Yoga is like any other aerobic exercise. Should you experience any discomfort, please discontinue and get medical advice.”
