As you may know the homeland of laughter yoga is India and with India going through such an incredibly difficult time right now with the covid crisis I wanted to help in some way and give something back! It broke my heart to see how people are dying from lack of oxygen and medical treatment. I have found a great charity I would like to support so please give generously and help me in making a difference.
My event is on Friday 14th May 2021 at 7pm, for about 45 minutes of laughter yoga. There may be some more events from myself and colleagues in the few weeks.
We will start with sending positive thoughts to India. You may wish to call it prayer or healing, whatever resonates with you. I do believe that the power of sending positive thoughts together as a group has a very powerful impact. We will then proceed with some laughter yoga exercises followed by a meditation. I will very likely be joined by other laughter yoga colleagues who will be invited to share some laughter exercises too.
Please join me in supporting my chosen charity Go Dharmic. They are supplying oxygen, beds and medical supplies in India.
Even if you cannot join us for a laugh, you can still support out appeal to help by making a donation.

Important Medical contraindications
It is contraindicated for people suffering from: Any kind of hernia, Heart disease with angina pain, Persistent cough with breathlessness, Uncontrolled high blood pressure, Urinary Incontinence, Epilepsy, Advanced (bleeding) piles and haemorrhoids or any bleeding tendencies in any part of the body, Severe backache, schizophrenia, Hyper mania (manic part of bipolar depression) Any acute symptoms of cough, cold and fever. People who have undergone major surgery should wait at least three months before doing Laughter Yoga.
Pregnant women with previous history of miscarriages and also those who are in advanced stage of pregnancy should take medical advice from specialists before doing laughter exercises.

I got a call from CBS news last week as they were featuring a health and wellbeing article on how laughter yoga is helping people around the world during the covid-19 pandemic.

Great news to have a new contact at CBS as we will be organising the international world laughter day zoomathon again this year and we have several laughter yogis taking part from the USA and all over the world!
Just now starting to organise world laughter day zoomathon 2021.
Last year we did it for the first time and we are still holding the record for the longest non-stop virtual laughter yoga event which spanned over 16 hours with almost 30 laughter yogis from across the globe! We actually started in the UK and ended in New Zealand a little after midnight.
Applications have started to trickle in .
This is going to be amazing as we will have star guests, the founders of Laughter Yoga in India joining us again this year, Dr Madan Kataria and Mrs Madhuri Kataria.
We will be injecting the world with Love, Laughter, Peace and Joy in 2021.

With further lockdown restrictions currently implemented here in the U.K stress levels are high, depressions is rife and we are facing a mental health crisis as we all navigate these challenging times. We have also been told to work from home wherever possible so many corporate teams are physically disconnected once more! So much doom and gloom!
Thankfully we know this time shall pass as everything is impermanent, however we still need to find coping mechanisms and well-being tools that can help us to feel less stressed, uplifted and happier. Laughter yoga totally fits the bill. I often say, it doesn’t matter what makes you laugh, it matter that you laugh although when we are facing challenging times and everything feels so serious it is not so easy to find reasons to laugh or to even access joy!
What if I said, you do not need a reason to laugh? What if I said you do not even need to find something funny or rely on comedy, jokes or humour in order to laugh! And it get’s even better as in laughter yoga we practice intentional laughter, we choose to laugh for the health of it! We are just laughing and we still get all the health benefits as we would from natural laughter. Laughter is contagious so even though we start with simulating sounds of laughter, very soon it becomes real!
This is exactly where laughter yoga comes into it’s own because we do not need to be in a good mood to laugh! We learn how to access our inner joy, to re-start our laughter engine!

While historically, people have thought that it takes 21 days to create a new habit (or change an existing one), recent claims have pushed that number up to a average of 66 days. In fact, the most recent significant study shows that it can take anywhere between 18 and 254 days to form a new habit, an average of 66 days. In laughter yoga we have been practicing a 40 day challenge to create a new healthy laughter habit!
The study mentioned above was undertaken by Cancer Research UK Health Behaviour Research Centre based at UCL Epidemiology and Public Health.
The team has completed a groundbreaking investigation into how people form habits, published last month in the European Journal of Social Psychology. Here Phillippa explains the key factors in creating and breaking habits and how we can help set up for ourselves new patterns of behaviour.

I encourage all new laughter yoga leaders to participate in what we call the 40 day laughter challenge to help start a new healthy laughter habit which ideally then turns in to an easily accessible daily laughter practice. When we laugh for just 10-15 minutes daily we gain the best health benefits. When we create a new healthy laughter habit, we actually enable ourselves to access laughter more easily and freely. It can then become a powerful go-to tool during challenging times.
So a one off laughter session or workshop is great but for longer term health benefits, we really need to make it a daily practice.

It’s that time of year again! World Smile Day falls on the first Friday of October! Yes it is a thing and I have blogged about it previously Click through to find our more about World Smile Day Interesting stuff!
This world smile day is a really weird one with the current situation with covid-19 and the wearing of masks. We are seeing less smiles than usual as most peoples smiles are hidden under masks and now we need those smiles and laughter more than ever during these challenging times.
So sometime last week I walked in to my local supermarket wearing my mask and I was greeted by a lovely friendly shop assistant so realising that I was smiling but she couldn’t see my smile, I told her that I had a big beautiful smile under my mask. We both proceeded to laugh. So I found this interesting as we know smiles are so infectious and that smile can totally change someone’s day so telling a person that we are smiling even though they cannot see the smile appears to be infectious too. This is great to know.
With this in mind, if you are wearing a mask and if you do find yourself smiling, say Hey I have a big beautiful smile under this mask and see if it is infectious for you too.
I would be really interested to know how you get on. So it is world smile day tomorrow on Friday! If you have time for a fun project, you could possibly make a big sign that says, I am smiling under this mask. HaHa. Let me know how you get on and if you telling people you are smiling is infectious.

World laughter day 2020 Zoomathon was a great success and thanks to Ishvinder in India, we now have a lovely video memory of the day.
Also I had a nerdy moment and have looked up the statistics on zoom which I would love to share with you. So we ran the zoom room continuously from 8am to just after midnight on Sunday 3rd May 2020. We had 30 amazing laughter yoga professionals from all over the world participate including 5 laughter yoga leaders trained by myself at The Laughter Yoga Wellness Training Academy. The founders of laughter yoga Dr Madan Kataria and Mrs Madhuri Kataria joined us to share laughter yoga which was just the icing on the cake! Now for the really nerdy facts. Playing around with my zoom account I have discovered that 770 participants visited us and received 412 hours (24,773 minutes) of laughter over the duration of 16.2 hours (972 minutes) HaHa 🙂 Now that was spreading a lot of laughter around the globe!
I am excited and delighted to announce that we will soon be delivering cutting edge training options online. This is a quality certified training with a certificate issued by laughter yoga wellness training academy.
We have trained around 90 laughter yoga leaders since setting up our training academy. We developed our own extra experiential module which we have been delivering and our leaders leave the training room with more tools, experience and confidence than with the standard training. We always give our best and therefore give our students the best possible chance of success moving forward with this incredible new wellbeing tool. Our online training will be no different! A fresh approach with full support going forward has been our motto and has lead to our success as a cutting edge quality laughter yoga training provider.

Upon successfully completing the training online you will have the skills required to enable you to start leading laughter yoga sessions online using the zoom interface. This is not a technical training but we will show you the way using zoom which is one of the most widely used platforms at the moment. This may be the new way of working for all of us for sometime and I believe it is a very much needed option for so many people who are ordinarily housebound! We have just opened up this incredible tool to so many more people. We know delivering laughter yoga online is making a huge difference to the lives of so many people.

There will be an optional in person add-on training module delivered in London UK or if your group is large enough I can deliver to you wherever you are! The in person module will enable you to lead in person sessions in addition to online sessions. It is a different way of working and requires additional skills and experience for in person face to face group work. Of course this option will only apply once it is safe to train in person.
This is in addition to our in person 2 day certified laughter yoga leader training which will go ahead once it is safe to do so.
I have been celebrating world laughter day in London organising events there for the past 4 years and already had my usual world laughter day London event advertised before the world changed so suddenly!
As the date was drawing closer it became clear that there would not be a world laughter day event happening in London due to social distancing and the covid-19 pandemic. We are all
The world needs laughter right now more than ever as it can provide a release from current goings on, a stress release, a mood lift and overall well-being boost for mind, body and soul and it can totally help us at times of adversity!
I decided to invite laughter yoga colleagues to join me in sharing Love, Peace and Joy through laughter together as we are all in this together, we are one world! #oneworld I also invited Dr Madan Kataria (founder of laughter yoga in India) to join us and Dr Kataria said YES! How awesome is this.
So this was the birth of World Laughter Day Zoomathon for 2020. Opening Ceremony at 8am, moving on to Judith in New Zealand and bouncing around the globe all day until we finish off at around midnight in Brazil!
You are invited to join us from wherever you are, you can pop in and out as you please throughout the day/night. We have 16 hours of laughter, relaxation and joyful activities for you and it is FREE of charge. Everyone is donating their time to this beautiful day.
